Stuff the Stroller is in full swing as shoppers have dropped off donations during their grocery shopping Tuesday afternoon.
The drive collects baby essentials, items like diapers, wipes, formula, even bottles and spoons, which go to help families served by the Crittenton Senter in Siouxland.
Tracy Feathers, the development director at the Crittenton Center, spoke about how the donations will be used to help families.
“The Crittenton center has been helping families, children and individuals for over 120 years in Sioux City and the Siouxland area. And what we do is provide an emergency shelter, which is the only one in northwest Iowa, for kiddos that don’t have a place to go. We also offer parenting and education classes, coping skills, we really focus on preventing child abuse. We have a wonderful program to help teens prevent homelessness. We offer them a place for them to learn skills to live on their own. And the other is our childcare and preschool and it helps so many young people.”
KCAU 9 News’ anchor Bridget Bennett stopped by the main child care center earlier Tuesday during naptime when most of the kids were sleeping. They’re some of the nearly 200 kids the center cares for every day. Some of these donated items are used to help take off some of the burdens many working parents face with their little ones.
Whether its a surprise package of diapers or wipes to a daycare family that may be struggling to keep up, its just one way the Stuff the Stroller drive helps so many families in Siouxland.
“Take one little bag of diapers and what that can do to a working family whos busting their buns to make ends meet,” Erika Fuentes of the Crittenton Center said. “And if we’re able to support them with just one small package of diapers, that impacts the workforce, that impacts employers, that impacts everything. And what’s important to us, kids don’t feel any of those pressures. They just come here and do what they do.”
A simple package of wipes or bag of diapers can make such a difference to these hard-working families who just need a little boost as they navigate the new expenses that come with a new baby.
KCAU 9 is partnering with Siouxland Obstetrics and Gynecology on the 6th Stuff the Stroller drive.
