SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The Stuff the Stroller drive is in its last week, and KCAU 9’s Anchor Bridget Bennett is at Hamilton HyVee today from 3 to 6 p.m. as she helps to fill carts with items to help Siouxland families.
In partnership with Siouxland Obstetrics & Gynecology, PC, Stuff the Stroller asks for donations of essential baby items like diapers and wet wipes to then go to the Crittenton Center who distributes them to families that need help.
After doing a rough tally of what was raised before Tuesday’s drive, all of the so-far collected diapers, wipes, bottles and more are estimated to be worth more than $3,000. That’s all money young families will save on those baby essentials that are so important to healthy, growing babies.
These donations will be going to families throughout the Crittenton Center from their parenting classes to emergency shelter and childcare centers. all young families who are working very hard to support their little ones and all of the expenses that come with a new baby.
Crittenton Childcare Center’s Director Erika Fuentes said Stuff the Stroller really goes further than individual families but has a big impact on the workforce and community as a whole.
“Being able just to support and just kind of give that extra nudge to the families. Just to say ‘Yup, we get it. We’ve got your back.’ And that’s what the community does too. We just know that they’re here to support nonprofit agencies here in Sioux City,” she said.
Many people stopped by to drop off a few extra items they purchased with their groceries. Thank you to everyone who has donated over the past four weeks.
