Winnavegas announces new combat sports coming to Sloan

Over the past two years, Winnavegas Casino Resort in Sloan has become the place for combat sports in Siouxland, highlighted by several King of the Cage fight nights.

Friday, they announced two more events coming to the area over the next few months.

Elimination Cage Boxing and Brawl for All will take place in Sloan in August and September respectively.

Elimination Cage Boxing is a single-elimination tournament where a winner will move on to the next King of the Cage event.

Brawl for All is the latest incarnation of a tough man contest with again, the winner earning a spot in a CBS Sports boxing show.

“Bring a big event to a small town and you’re going to have a great event,” said Patrick Ortiz of Ringside Ticket, Inc., and organizer of Brawl for All.  “That’s exactly what we’re doing here. You get a chance to fight and win a cash prize and then go on and fight on national television. Those are the kind of things that create excitement.”

“We need some kind of feeder system,” said Terry Trebilcock, founder of King of the Cage and organizer of Elimination Cage Boxing. “We need some kind of system where the guy that’s now working as a mechanic that was a high school state champion wrestler that’s working some where, let’s find that guy. Let’s find the guy at 28 years old and see if he’s still interested in competing in MMA.”
