South Dakota find out that it squares off with seventh-ranked Creighton in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday afternoon.
The Yotes are making their first NCAA tournament appearance, but they’re confident they have a shot against the Jays.
“Once we found out we knew we could play them, we definitely started scouting, just for fun,” Wilson said. “I think we’re super excited, I think we know that we have a chance to go down there and beat them. We just have to keep playing like were playing and we peaked at a great time this season and we hope to keep going with it.”
Head coach Leanne Williamson mentioned a pair of key aspects that will give her team a shot against Creighton.
“Two things we really focus on is being disciplined, both offensively and defensively and I think you can see that within our team and then being fearless,” Williamson said. “I think going into the NCAA tournament, that fearlessness even takes another step forward. Nobody’s necessarily going to expect us to win. we’re going to be the underdog, which is where we want to be right now. ”
The match is in Omaha and starts at 6 p.m.
