At Sioux City council Monday night, the Awesome Biker Nights fundraiser application for street closure permits for their 19th annual celebration in June passed.
The organization requested a temporary closure on 4th Street from Jones to Iowa Street from June 6 to June 9 of next year.
Last year, a few business owners along 4th Street spoke out against the biker celebration claiming that shutting down the street cost them business during the weekend.
Councilman Dan Moore said he is optimistic the two groups will come to an agreement this year.
“We’ve tried to bring the businesses and the Awesome Biker Nights people together so it can be a very successful event. I’m hoping that the promises that were made were kept in the past and that the businesses will not object. and that they will be on board for the closing of the street,” said Moore.
Last year, Awesome Biker Nights brought nearly 20,000 motorcyclists to Sioux City. Organizers are hoping to surpass those numbers this year.
