2-A-Days: Woodbury Central

MOVILLE, Iowa (ABC9 Sports)–It’s rare for a team to go from 2-7 to top-ten the next season, but that might just happen with Woodbury Central in 2014.

Last season was the first time since 2008 that Woodbury Central sat at home during the postseason, and they’re determined not to do that two years in a row.

If there is one positive from last season, it’s that young guys got important experience. This season, the Cats return eight starters on both sides of the ball, highlighted by Levi and Landan Paulsen on the line.

The senior twins are committed to play at the University of Iowa next year and they and their line mates will be counted on to open holes for Lane Nichols and Luke Klingensmith as Woodbury Central enters year two as a ground-and-pound team.

The Wildcats are talented and motivated, and they’re ready to make a deep run this year.

“We got the taste of losing last year and we didn’t like it at all,” said Nichols. “I think it really motivated everybody on the team to try harder.”

“We definitely want to get to the Dome and make it to the playoffs again,” said Landan Paulsen. “But we want to take it a step further and win the whole thing.”

Levi was more direct. “You’re gonna be seeing us with a trophy in our hands in Cedar Falls,” he said.
