2-A-Days: North High

Local Sports
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (ABC9 Sports)–With first-year Head Coach Jon Niemic at the helm, the North Stars are ready to build on last season’s playoff appearance and become a perennial power in Class 4A.

Late last season, the Stars offense was explosive, scoring 42 and 62 points in their final two regular season games.

Six players from that offense–and seven from the defense–return in 2014 highlighted by Xavier Scarlett, Robert Neustrom, and Dan Tillo.

Scarlett had over 600 yards of offense last year and a pair of touchdowns. Neustrom and Tillo split time under center and combined for almost 2,300 yards passing, 700 yards rushing, and 33 total touchdowns.

With a strong senior core and the excitement of a new head coach, North is ready to become a force year-in and year-out.

“We’re expecting a lot from us,” said Tillo. “I mean to come in and start building this program and winning more than just four games a year We want to win six or seven games.”

“Last year we had a losing record,” added Neustrom. “This year we are planning on improving that and getting a few more wins.”

“I expect a lot from our senior class,” said Niemic. “We have close to 22 seniors which is a big group. I expect a lot of leadership from them.”
