2-A-Days: East High

Local Sports
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (ABC9 Sports)–Over the past few years, Bob Goodvin has turned the East Black Raiders into a perennial playoff team. But East has higher expectations than just making the postseason.

“Every year since 1972 at East, we have talked about winning championships, district championships, conference championships in the good old days and state championships.” said Goodvin. “That’s our goal.”

As with several teams in the area though, East was hit hard by graduation. Both quarterbacks who saw action last year are gone as are Ronald Carter and Ronald Nash, both of whom had over 1,000 yards of total offense in 2013.

Coach Goodvin says his offensive and defensive lines should be a strength this year, as should his secondary.

Both Dakota Blatchford and Kaleb Hanks are back after three interceptions a piece last season.

Those two along with 29 other seniors will be counted on to help East rebuild, instead of reload.

“We talk about dominating the day. That’s our slogan for the year,” said Goodvin. “What it means is that our success is nothing more than a sum of all our days together. When we play on Friday nights, our success is going to depend on how we do on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursday.”

The Black Raiders open the season on August 28 against Heelan at Olsen Stadium.
