2-A-Days: Dakota Valley

Local Sports
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (ABC9 Sports)–Over the past decade or so, Dakota Valley has been a perennial playoff team in South Dakota. As familiarity grows under second-year coach Jeff Van Den Hul, the Panthers hope to continue that tradition.

Last year, the Panthers went 5-4, but were upset in the first round of the postseason by Vermillion, 8-0.

This season, they have the advantage of a full year under Van Den Hul, but the Panthers will be inexperienced. They return just two starters on offense and three on defense.

Unlike college football, there’s no starting out with a cupcake to get the young guys up to speed. The Panthers open the season with last year’s Class 11-A champion, West Central.

But even with those challenges, Dakota Valley is confident and poised to make a deep run in the postseason.
