It was announced Wednesday afternoon that Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson is the recipient of the John Mackey Award as the nations best tight end.
The sophomore is the second Hawkeye to be rewarded with the honor (Dallas Clark, 2002), which makes Iowa the second school with multiple Mackey award winners (Arkansas).
The tight end from Chariton leads the Hawkeyes with 46 receptions for 717 yards with six receiving touchdowns. Hockenson will receive the award during the college football award show. The ceremony starts at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Iowa’s season wraps up when they face Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. The game kicks off at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
