Jerry Walter Crawford was born on December 9, 1940 in Sioux City, the son of Jacob and Leona (Harrington) Crawford. Jerry graduated in January of 1959 from Central High School. On April 20, 1963 Jerry was united in marriage to Joan Bechler in Sioux City. They had a very special love. Jerry would often say their marriage was “made in Heaven”.
Jerry started working for Mid-America Energy in 1959 as an Apprentice Lineman and retired in 1996 as the local manager of Mid-America Energy office in Sloan. Jerry was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Jerry had a cabin near Vermillion on the Missouri River where the family spent many weekends fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and traveling. Jerry’s favorite trip was during 2011, when he and Joan took a cruise to Alaska with their friends the Bollmeyers. His greatest joy was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan.
Jerry is survived by his wife Joan of Sloan; two sons, Jim Crawford of Omaha, Nebraska and Steve Crawford and his wife Carla of Sloan; two daughters, Cathy and her husband John Crowl of Lawton, and Kristin and her husband Jeremy Burbank of Sloan; eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Emily, Jacob, Jaslyn, Megan, Abby, Katie and Matthew; and one sister, Mary Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
