National Cheese Champion crowned in Wisconsin

This Morning

A new world champion in the cheese world has been crowned, and they are located right here in the United States!

Judges had to choose from nearly 3,000 different cheeses.

That’s right, 3,000!!!

So who took home the gold?

The winning cheese is the Grand Cru Surchoix, and comes to us by the cheesemakers at Emmi Roth USA in Monroe Wisconsin!

This highest honor has been given to Swiss cheese makers four out of the last five years. The last time a United States cheesemaker won the prize was in 1988.

The Grand Cru Surchoix is a Swiss-style cheese that has to age a minimum of nine months.

So what does it taste like?

Well apparently, the Grand Cru Surchoix tastes like a mixture of fruit, caramel, mushrooms, with a hint of French onion soup.
