Minimum Wage Rally

State Legislature

Democrats at the Statehouse as well as our nation’s capitol have been pushing to raise the minimum wage.

Thursday a bus tour rolled into town, telling Iowans to stand with Senator Tom Harkin’s push to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

Representative Pat Murphy from Dubuque, along with a number of others, spoke at the rally, saying $7.25 an hour just isn’t enough.

“We need to move the minimum wage up to $10.10 an hour, we need to be able to let families provide for themselves and not depend on government subsidies to make their living,” said Rep. Murphy.

It’s unlikely that a minimum wage bill will make it through either the Iowa House or the US House this year. But Democrats at both levels say it’s an issue they’re going to continue to press.
