State Senator Jack Hatch gave his farewell speech in the State Senate chambers Wednesday.

The Senator thanked his colleagues and supporters in the chamber he’s served in for 12 years, and also got high praise from his Democratic colleagues.

“Jack is tenacious, drives a hard bargain, he’s a loyal friend, also a softie, he’s got a huge heart, a tough negotiatior, stubborn, a leader, a successful businessman, a family man,” said Sen. Joe Bolkcom.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal agreed Hatch is a very tough negotiator.   “Jack always thought ‘maybe I can get a little more,’ and I admire that.”

Sen. Dick Dearden said he looked forward to meeting with Hatch “one floor down,” a reference to the Governor’s Office in the Statehouse. Hatch is running against incumbent Republican Governor Terry Branstad in November.
