The search for a missing nine-year-old girl in the Black Hills has transitioned to a recovery mission.

Serenity Dennard was last seen Sunday morning when she left the Black Hills Children’s Home on South Rockerville Road.

Members of specialized search crews have looked for her on the ground and from the air in the days since.  On Tuesday evening, the Pennington County’s Sheriff’s Office said if Serenity has been outside the entire time, it’s unlikely she survived.

However, they have not ruled out she could still be found alive in a shelter or may have been picked up by someone.

Specially-trained dogs from eastern South Dakota and Colorado have been requested to help in the recovery.
