Former SD lawmaker dies at 53, flags at capitol lowered to half-staff

South Dakota News

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — A former South Dakota state lawmaker has died.

David Lust of Rapid City served in the legislature for 11 years and was the Republican House Majority leader for four years. Lust died Friday at the age of 53.

Governor Kristi Noem released a statement, announcing the lowering of flags to half-staff until Saturday at sundown at the State Capitol.

I was heartbroken to learn of David Lust’s passing. He was a wonderful thoughtful man. He focused on the legal implications of every bill, not the politics of it. We’ll miss him dearly. Bryon and I are praying for his family.

Gov. Kristi Noem

Lust’s memorial service is on Saturday at 1:30 pm MT at The Fine Arts Theatre at The Monument in Rapid City.
