“Right now we have a triple pretty situation…pretty horrible, pretty ugly, and pretty have to stay that way” Jim Cody, Vermillion Resident.
It’s the first snow storm of the season…A BandAid that needs to be ripped off as we head into winter. But this snow storm particularly came as a shock to Siouxlanders.
It didn’t drop a ton of snow in our immediate area, most of the heavy snow stayed north. But the cold blast of painfully chilling winds, slick roads, and blowing snow came as a shock to the system.
“Uh… it’s so windy out here and cold! It’s real sudden, it was a real sudden change” says Linda Amman, Siouxland Resident.
We spent the entire month of November thus far with above normal temperatures, some summer-like, over 70 degrees….with Friday’s storm getting us to at and below normal temperatures, falling into the 30’s for the first time in quite a while.
“I was really unprepared. When I came out this morning to go to school I was like ‘Oh my gosh! I’m not prepared!’ It was just too much for me. It was windy… I’m not ready, I thought I was an I’m not!” says Hannah Cooke, East High Student.
But for some, it’s just another round of Mother Nature’s changes, changes that come every year in the Midwest…. and they were ready for the first flakes of the season.
“I don’t mind it. I just drive a little slower than I used to. I’ve lived here all my life, so I know what it’s like” says Michael Spink, Siouxland Resident.
“It kind of has a sense of urgency, everybody get to the grocery store, fill up the fridge…. so last night was kind of a busy night as people flocked in to prepare for the storm” says Joshua Suing, Store Director, Hy-Vee.
