UPDATE: Interstate 29 between Jefferson and Elk Point has reopened.
Officials say that the semi was going north on I-29 when it went into the median before then hitting the bridge and cable wire.
To help stop the flow of leaking hazardous material, sand dams were set up. Hazmat teams from Davenport, Kansas City and Omaha are en route to clean up the spill.
No one was injured in the crash. It is still being investigated.
PREVIOUS: Interstate-29 is currently closed between Elk Point and Jefferson in South Dakota because of a semi crash.
According to Union County Sheriff, the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. A semi-truck hit the center pillar of a bridge near mile marker 12 on I-29. The semi is reportedly leaking hazardous material onto the roadway. Hazmat crews are on scene working to clean it up. They hope to have the road reopened soon.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
