Early dismissals due to heat will soon be a thing of the past in Sioux City.
At Monday night’s School Board meeting, they moved forward plans to install air conditioning in the final two schools without. The project is for Sunnyside and Riverside Elementary.
The combined cost of both schools is $1.68 million and is expected to be complete in 2020
“Well, the nice part is, there’s a lot of days where it’s still a bit muggy and a bit warm in the buildings that don’t meet the criteria for us to let out early. What this will mean for the students is they’ll be able to have that consistent learning environment,” said the school’s Operations and Maintenance Director Brian Fahrendholz.
Additionally, Bryant and Hunt Elementry Schools will both reopen with air conditioning in their new buildings around 2022.
