SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The first phase of the Arena Sports Academy will be built in the heart of Morningside. What used to be a Hobby Lobby, will now become part of the largest youth sporting complex in the area.
“Conveniently located right off of an interstate conveniently positioned right by major retail major restaurants, major hotels, makes it a perfect spot for this project,” Dustin Cooper with The Arena said.
“The benefit of this project will be to attract families and teams from outside the community and bring them in to spend money in our local economy,” Renae Billings with Sioux City Economy Development Department said.
The Morningside location will be the first of two phases. Phase two will be built in downtown in Sioux City’s stockyards. According to Arena Sports, the two facilities will work in conjunction with one another.
“The arena team will provide and have access to 250,000 square feet of youth sports complex in our community and we could not be more excited about the partnership with the expo center and what we’re going to provide ourselves,” Arena Partner Jeff Carlson said.
“It is unique because we have our own home, our staff, our coaches and connections to unbelievable amazing people from around the entire united states and no one else has that, ” said Clint Koedam with the Wrestling Program.
Phase one of the arena sports academy is expected to be completed this fall.
