Surveillance video captures mountain lion by Yankton

Local News

Folks in Yankton are on the lookout after a mountain lion was spotted near town just a few days ago.

The lion was captured on surveillance video at the home of Jim Ryan who lives west of Yankton near the Lewis and Clark Marina.

Ryan said the video captured the cougar on Saturday.

According to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, the animal is likely an adolescent male and is probably just moving from the area.

Officials said that lions have been known to travel hundreds of miles from their original habitat in the Black Hills.
