Strike Out Stroke with the Sioux City Explorers

Local News

Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City is trying to raise awareness about the risks of stroke.

An inflatable replica of the human brain is set up in the Lewis and Clark Park parking lot where the Explorers are facing Winnipeg in the first of three games.

Visitors can step inside the brain, learn about brain structures and functions and observe examples of brain trauma and disease.  In addition, folks can learn about some of the latest neurological treatments to help stroke victims.

“We love this inflatable brain because it really gets people, you actually walk inside the brain and get to see the anatomy of our brain and what happens if you injure that aspect of the brain. How can that effect you and different parts of you in your daily living,” said Shannon Patton, with Mercy Medical Center.
Stroke survivors are throwing out the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
