A Storm Lake man was arrested and a warrant is being sought against a woman after police were called to a domestic disturbance Monday night.
The Storm Lake Police Department said that they were called in reference to a domestic assault and a woman armed with a knife at a residence in the 300 block of West 7th Street in Storm Lake Monday around 6:40 p.m.
Police took Jiovanni Ramirez Flores, 26, of Storm Lake, and Yasmin Terrero, 22, of Storm Lake, into custody upon their arrival.
From their investigation, the police department alleged that Ramirez Flores and Terrero were fighting in the morning around 8:30 a.m. when he bit her on the leg.
There were three children present during the fight and were unharmed. They are two, three, and seven-years-old.
Around 6:30 p.m., the started to fight again when Terrero is said to have grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened Ramirez Flores. He then allegedly grabbed the seven-year-old child, using them as a shield. Terrero later dropped the knife.
The seven-year-old child had minor injuries to her rib area but did not require medical attention.
All three children were taken into protective custody and transferred to the custody of the Iowa Department of Human Services
Terrero was taken Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to another facility for an evaluation. Police are seeking warrants for Yasmin Terrero, 22, of Storm Lake, following her release from evaluation.
Ramirez Flores was arrested and charged with domestic assault-second offense causing bodily injury, domestic assault-second offense and child endangerment causing bodily injury, two misdemeanors and a felony respectively. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
