A Storm Lake man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly choking the victim in front of children.
Danian Romero Irias, 26, of Storm Lake, was charged with domestic assault impeding the flow of air or blood, two counts of child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of East 5th Street for a report of a domestic disturbance Saturday around 9:30 p.m., according to the Storm Lake Police Department.
Through an investigation, they said that Irias was arguing with a female victim when he head-butted her, hit her, and then choked her.
She is said to have hit Irias in the head with a bottle and get free. Irias then reportedly chased her into the bedroom and then started to choke her with his hands. A relative intervened and called the police.
The police said that Irias was outside when they arrived with a laceration on his forehead. The victim was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for her injuries.
Two children were in the residence and are said to have had the incident take place in their presence.
When arrested Irias, Police found he had a small amount of marijuana and that he was wanted on a warrant for driving while barred.
Irias was booked into the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and was held without bond.
