(KCAU) – After a wet spring, mosquitos are a new concern for the upcoming summer season.
The insects breed in standing water and with much of Siouxland still seeing stagnant floodwater, there may be an increase in mosquitos this year. Experts say the easiest way to prevent mosquitos is to check containers for standing water and empty the water you find.
“Things like plastic containers that are holding water, even relatively small container, it provides sufficient habitats for some species and some of the species that we are most concerned about in fact that’s where they will breed primarily,” University of South Dakota Entomologist Daniel Soluk said.
The easiest way to prevent mosquitos from breeding in your yard is to check for standing water. Emptying water prevents adults from laying eggs and also stops those eggs from developing.
