SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Sports betting bill is making its way to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds desk. The bill cleared the Iowa Statehouse this week. But still, a lot of questions remain around the new law if it is signed.

But one question still remains, how will sports betting impact those who suffer from gambling addiction. KCAU 9 spoke with staff at Jackson Recovery to learn more about what kinds of programs they offer for compulsive gamblers in the area.

“Spend a lot of time talking about what can they replace that activity with because it becomes their life, their social life, it becomes what they do with their friends, what they do when their lonely and going through things,” says Cindi Prather therapist at Jackson Recovery center.

The facility also offers gamblers anonymous twelve-step programs throughout the week. Reynolds still has not said if she will sign the sports betting bill.
