A emergency declaration has been made in South Sioux City after the severe grain elevator explosion.

There was an explosion in a South Sioux City grain elevator Tuesday around 1:00 p.m., and the impact could supposedly be felt from blocks away.

South Sioux City Mayor Rod Koch and the Council made the declaration before 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the declaration, they say that it “caused severe damage to public and private property, disruption of services, and endangerment of health and safety” of South Sioux City residents.

By declaring a state of emergency, the state can assist in determining the damages, concerns with the building integrity and potential impacts on adjacent properties including residential units.
