Students from South Sioux City Schools are making a big donation to help families in need this holiday season.
Students have been collecting canned food and non-perishable items so they can make Christmas baskets and give them to families who may need a little extra assistance this time of year.
The students have also held fundraisers, and Monday, they presented a $1,800 check to the South Sioux City Community Fund.
The Assistant Principal Tom Luxford of South Sioux said programs like these help prepare students for the real world.
“Anytime you give something or do something for somebody, it’s a teachable moments for our kids and that the whole intent behind it. We want our kids to be prepared for the real life when they graduate from our school,” Luxford said.
This is the 12th year the school has held a fundraiser like this. The students plan to package and donate 320 Christmas baskets.
