Six vehicles damaged in pileups on Highway 20

Multi-car accident on highway 20

It was a dicey day on local roads.  Freezing rain fell in central parts of Siouxland making roads better suited for skating than driving.
Although conditions improved by evening, concerns about what Thursday morning could bring caused some schools post late starts.

Light freezing rain produced black ice in places.  State and local road crews were able to put down a layer of salt and sand making most roads safe.

Before that a multi vehicle accident on Highway 20 east of Lawton closed a westbound lane for about two hours.  One of two semi rigs involved in the mishap rolled and ended up in pieces in the median. Deputies tell KCAU9 News there were no injuries.

Another weather related accident sent a truck traveling on Highway 75 into the ditch.  The driver lost control and rolled down the embankment.  He says he was driving around 30 miles per hour at the time.
He also was not injured in the accident.
