CLIVE, Iowa (KCAU) –  A Sioux City woman has claimed the $1 million dollar prize from the Mega Millions lottery.

Playing for the first time, Angelica Chavez, 27, said she chose her numbers a few years ago when she worked at a senior-living center and there was a little game there with balls in it like a lottery drawing machine, according to the Iowa Lottery. She said she wrote down multiple sets of six numbers and kept all this time in her purse.

“I told my dad the night before, ‘I’m going to win something big,’” Chavez said as she claimed her prize Monday afternoon at Iowa Lottery headquarters. “And he said, ‘Just go for it!’”

Chavez had matched the first five numbers but missed the Mega Ball from Friday’s lottery drawing. The winning numbers for the Mega Millions were 18-25-43-44-57 and Mega Ball 25.

“I had already felt that I was going to win,” she said. “I put 15 instead of 25, or I would have won the whole jackpot!”

Chavez plans to invest her winnings and wants to put money aside for her daughter’s future.

“I have a couple plans,” she said. “I kind of want to buy some properties and put them for rent so the money can keep running, not just stay stuck in the bank.”

She bought her ticket at Sioux City’s Fleet Farm Fuel.  Fleet Farm will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $1 million-winning ticket at one of its stores.
