A 66-year-old Sioux City woman has pleaded guilty to child endangerment and assault causing bodily injury after authorities say she abused a 3-year-old girl at her in-home daycare. 

According to court documents, Lynette Roberts was babysitting the girl at her at her home back in January when the incident occurred. Authorities say that Roberts was having difficulty getting the child to go down for a nap when the girl became upset and began crying and screaming. Roberts told police during an interview that she slapped the child over the mouth and struck her on the buttocks in an attempt to stop the screaming. As a result, the child suffered severe bruising on her face and buttocks. 

Roberts has pleaded guilty to one count of Child Endangerment and One Count of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Both charges are Aggravated Misdemeanors in the State of Iowa punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a $6,250 fine. She’s currently out on bond. A sentencing hearing has been set for August 22nd.
