The Sioux City Community School District is offering a 1.5 percent raise to its teachers. The counter offer from the district was announced on Monday and is less than half what the teachers union originally proposed. That 1.5 percent hike is being offered to teachers. Support staff would receive a 40-cents raise as well.
The Sioux Education Association and the Sioux City Educational Support Personnel Association originally asked for a 3.5 raise earlier this month. That would have added a dollar and a half raise per hour to teachers.
“We got to get people moving forward, everybody. You can’t take home less money next year then you do this year and it’s tough, it’s a tough go,” said Brenda Zahner the ISEA regional director.
The unions now have to decide whether to accept the district’s offer or make a counteroffer. Negotiations will resume on March 6th.
