Mayor Bob Scott declares snow emergency for Sioux City to begin Sunday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Snow Emergency to Begin Sunday, January 21

Due to the forecasted winter storm anticipating 3 to 10 inches of snow, a snow emergency has been declared by Mayor Scott to take effect beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21. The snow emergency declaration prohibits parking or leaving a vehicle unattended on an emergency snow route street. A map showing emergency snow route streets may be located at www.sioux-city.org under Community/News/Snow Information.

According to the Sioux City Municipal Code Chapter 10.84.040, after a two inch or greater snowfall it is unlawful for any person to obstruct the orderly removal of snow from the full width of the city’s streets by parking, standing or otherwise leaving unattended any vehicle upon designated emergency snow routes.

Additionally, citizens should park on the even side of the street on even days of the month after seven o’clock (7:00) a.m. until seven o’clock (7:00) a.m. the following day. Vehicles should be parked on the odd street numbered side of the street on odd days of the month during the same time period. No parking is permitted on the side of the street where parking is prohibited. Residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from on street parking where possible. Sunday, January 21 is an odd day, therefore residents should park on the odd side of the street. Vehicles must be moved to the even side of the street on Monday, January 22 at 7:00 a.m.

Any vehicle found in violation of the snow emergency parking restrictions found in chapter 10.84.040 and 10.84.060 will be towed at the owner’s expense.

The emergency snow route map can be found at https://www.sioux-city.org/community/news/snow-information/snow-maps (denoted by red lined streets). Sioux City Municipal Code is located at www.sioux-city.org under the Government tab.

We appreciate the support of our residents to help keep our city safe until streets are cleared. Questions regarding parking restrictions should be directed to the Sioux City Police Department Facebook page or www.siouxcitypolice.com.
