Sioux City pet owners are being asked to license their pets for 2019.
All pet license will expire on December 31 of their license year so they will have to review the license for the next year by March 1.
Cost for licensing is $11 for neutered pets or $31 for intact pets. Pets must be vaccinated for rabies before a license can be issued.
Any pets licensed late will be penalized. Licenses obtained after March 1st a $2 penalty will be added to each license fee; $4 will be added after April 1; and $6 after May 1.
Any pit bulls that were licensed before the 2008 pit bull ban and were continually licensed must be renewed before March 1 to still be allowed in city limits.
The city would also like to remind residents of an ordinance that limits the number of pets allowed in a household. One household is limited to three pets of no more than two of the same species. To own more, residents would need to get an Excess Pets Permit $10. It lasts for two years. Like licensing, puts must be vaccinated for rabies before being issued.
