Sioux City man arrested for punching woman in the back of the head

A Sioux City man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly ran from police after punching a woman in the back of the head.

Gary Wiseman, 31, of Sioux City, was charged with serious assault and serious eluding. 

According to court documents, Wednesday morning around 5:00, Wiseman was at his home and arguing with a woman he was dating. 

During the argument, Wiseman allegedly punched the victim in the back of the head and the pushed her down. He then allegedly punched her on the side of the head. 

The victim reportedly had injuries on her hand and knees, as well as bruising and swelling on her face. 

The documents said that when officers arrived at the residence, Wiseman ran in the opposite direction through a neighborhood to evade officers. 

Wiseman is said to have eventually surrendered himself to the police after multiple commands to stop. 

Police noted that Wiseman smelled of alcohol and his eyes were glossy. 

Wiseman allegedly admitted to officers that he assaulted the victim. 

He is being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a bond of $2,500.
