Sioux City 2nd graders receive free bike helmet

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Every second grader in Siouxland is a little safer Tuesday thanks to a generous donation.

All second-grade students in Sioux City received a free bike helmet thanks to a donation by Opportunities Unlimited. That donation was possible thanks to a grant of more than $12,000 from the Dairy Queen Smiles and Stories program.

“This program was one way that we hoped to make a difference in the lives of our community just to give awareness and hopefully allow some safety practices to prevent a brain injury,” said Opportunity Unlimited’s Jennifer McCabe.

With the temperatures rising, a lot more youngsters will be on the streets now, it’s good to know they will be that much safer.
