DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) – A Siouxland pediatrician is being honored for her contribution to promoting childhood immunizations.
Dr. Ashlesha Kaushik was recognized as Iowa’s 2019 Childhood Immunization Champion as part of National Infant Immunization Week, according to a Monday release from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Serving as a pediatrician at UnityPoint in Sergeant Bluff, they said Dr. Kaushik helps to manage infections and promote immunizations for those who may be underserved in the area
The IDPH said Dr. Kaushik has been a educates not only her patients, “but also future physicians and the community about the importance of childhood vaccines.”
The IDPH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local public health agencies in the state use National Infant Immunization Week to recognize the importance of infant vaccinations and celebrate promotions of immunization programs. National Infant Immunization Week started April 27 and goes through May 4.
