DES MOINES, Iowa (WOI) - It's become a summertime tradition, complete with BBQ and bikes!
Senator Joni Ernst and Governor Kim Reynolds joined hundreds on the streets today to celebrate veterans.
For the fourth straight year, they made the 39 mile trek to Boone County for the 'Roast and Ride'.
Senator Ernst has had several big name visitors come along over the past several years, including Vice President Mike Pence last year and Donald Trump in 2016.
She says she's especially grateful for loyal sponsors.
"The ride portion is dedicated to a veterans charity every year, so this foundation is where we are sending all of our proceeds. And then the Lynch Family Foundation has been very generous as well and will be giving additional dollars to the Travis Mills Foundation, and we are very thankful for them," says Sen. Ernst.
About 450 riders were there for Saturday's event. They say the turnout was very similar to what they've had in past years.
