Iowa Senator Joni Ernst is concerned that if the government doesn’t reopen soon, summertime sales of ethanol fuel could be impacted with the Environmental Protection Agency closed due to the partial government shutdown.

President Trump committed to the additional E-15 sales last year.

Ernst said she’s worried the agency won’t have enough time to adopt new rule before a May deadline.

Ernst’s full statement can be read below:

That’s a very important topic for me. The president has said: ‘We will have E15 year round,’ and I’m going to hold [acting EPA Administrator] Andrew Wheeler’s feet to the fire in that regard. Even though we have a government shutdown, he knew and understood the president’s push to have this done by about that May timeframe so consumers could purchase E15 during the summer months.
