Iowa Senator Joni Ernst spent part of the day presenting awards to veterans in Sioux City.
The ceremony took place at the Sioux City federal courthouse Tuesday morning.
Three people were presented with an award from the Senator.
One man who received a purple heart for his service in the Vietnam war said to receive this medal is an honor.
I don’t know, I’ve waited 50 years, it’s kind of exciting because I’ve tried before with no luck to get it back, now I get it back so I don’t know where to put it in the house.” said Antonio Lopez a Vietnam War veteran.
Tuesday’s stop was a part of Ernst’s 99 county tour of the state.
She will be presenting medals in a few other Siouxland counties including Pocahontas, Kossuth and Emmet.
