Continuing his tour across northwest Iowa, Senator Chuck Grassley made a stop Tuesday at Unity Point Health St. Luke’s Sunnybrook Clinic .
The senator took a tour of the facility and sat down with staff members for a brief Q & A, saying he enjoyed the opportunity to go to his constituents to spark discussion and dialogue. Topics visited on his tour included shortage of nurses, delivery of health care in rural America, and problems of rural hospitals.
“We have the anomaly of being low reimbursement on Medicare and yet we’re fourth or fifth in quality. And, I always use Louisiana as the opposite example, they’re are number one in reimbursement and number fifty in quality of care. We do not get credit for the high quality of health care that we deliver in the Midwest, and particularly in Iowa” says Senator Charles Grassley.
Grassley says one of the hardest questions to answer is how to get more doctors out to rural hospitals providing everyone with proper health care.
Our Tim Seamen got the chance to sit down with the senator to talk about this and other issues he’s tackling on Capitol Hill. Be sure to tune in to This Week in Siouxland for that interview this Sunday at 9:00AM.
