Local News

Authorities in Southeast South Dakota are investigating 17 burglaries and residents are being warned to take extra precaution to protect their vehicles from being burglarized.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said they have responded to 17 burglary calls as of Friday. Since then, they have identified persons of interest in the case. They are working with other agencies as they continue their investigation

They believe the burglaries happened in the early morning hours. They also happened in the city limits of worth, rural Worthing and rural Harrisburg.

Most of the burglaries happened to unlocked vehicles in driveways. Some of the vehicles had garage door openers which the suspect used to get into residents’ garages. One vehicle had the front window smashed out of it and contents were stolen from inside it.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the burglaries. They ask that anyone with tips call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 605-764-5651 or call Crime Stoppers of the Sioux Empire at 605-367-7007.

Meanwhile, they also ask residents to remove valuable and garage door openers from their vehicle and to lock them. They said to also lock outside garage service doors.
