Runaway pets wait for owners in rescue center after holiday weekend

Local News

16 dogs and 9 cats ran away and wound up at the Sioux City Adoption and Rescue Center this weekend, many of them most likely running off afraid of fireworks or getting lost at a picnic. The rescue center says sedatives are one option to keep your pet safe during any holiday with fireworks.

“Make sure you do have them on a leash at all times, that prevents them from getting loose and running off…It takes us a couple days to round up a lot of dogs that are still missing. They’re so afraid that they run off and won’t even let their owners catch them” says Cindy Rarratm, Owner Operator, Sioux City Animal Adoption & Rescue.

Only 7 out of the 16 dogs were reclaimed, no cats have found their home. The Sioux City Adoption and Rescue Center will be open on Sunday for owners who are looking for their runaway pets.
