Rock Valley, Iowa grocery store changing hands

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa (KCAU) – A grocery store that has served the area of Rock Valley, Iowa for 58 years is changing hands.

Van’s Marketplace Foods, who is owned by the Van Otterloo family, has sold the business to Sunshine Foods.  Sunshine Foods will take over in the middle of July.

“It’s never an easy decision to leave something you’ve spent your entire career doing and that’s been a part of your family for decades, but knowing we are passing the torch to another family and community orientated business makes leaving a lot easier,” said owner Kevin Van Otterloo.

Sunshine Foods belongs to a cooperative of over 3900 grocery stores, with 15 in the area including Rock Rapids, Canton, Hawarden, and Milford. Sunshine Food General Manager Brent Bosch works out of the Sunshine Foods Rock Rapids location.

“Living in Rock Rapids, we shop the Rock Valley Main Street often and have become familiar with your beautiful community! Our goal is to continue to provide the Rock Valley area with friendly and helpful service with great quality products at a fair price,” said Bosch.

“Thank you doesn’t properly summarize how grateful we are for the patronage the last 58 years of business,” Van Otterloo. “We are excited to see what the future holds for us and are looking forward to continuing to shop local at Sunshine Foods.”

Van’s Marketplace Foods will remain open throughout the transition.
