Storm Lake, IA (ABC9 News) – A Storm Lake man is charged with child endangerment after his kids were found wandering around in the parking lot of a local grocery store.

Police were called to the Hy-Vee Store on North Lake Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night for two young children in the parking lot unattended.

The two kids were ages 2 and 4. Police found one child dressed in pajamas and no shoes, the other only wearing a diaper.

When authorities went to the home they found the father, 24-year-old Scott Hinkeldey, intoxicated and sleeping.

Police arrested Hinkeldey and charged him with 2 counts of Child Endangerment. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $4,000.00 bond.

The children were not injured and were left in the custody of a responsible adult.

A report has been filed with the Iowa Department of Human Services.
