Pink in the Rink broadens cancer support with new name

Local News

The Pink in the Rink event has gotten a new name and will now raise awareness and funds for all types of cancer.

Hosted by the Sioux City Musketeers and UnityPoint Health–St. Luke’s, the event that has raised nearly $500,000 for breast cancer awareness over ten years, is now called Cross Check Cancer, according to a press release.

The event included a ceremonial puck drop by breast cancer survivors and hard hits in support of breast cancer.

Going forward, Cross Check Cancer will keep the fan favorite traditions, but be using the color lavender to show support of all cancers.

About one third of all people in the United States may develop cancer, according to the American Cancer Society, and over over one and a half million new cancer cases are diagnosed each year.

Cross Check Cancer is set to see the Sioux City Musketeers take on The Sioux Falls Stampede  on October 27 at the Tyson Event Center.
