A semi carrying piglets crashed Monday.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, a Kentworth semi-tractor carrying a trailer with livestock crashed one mile south of Alton on Highway 60  around 11:30 a.m. Monday. 

Davus Closson, 30, of O’Neil, Nebraska, was driving the semi and pulling a trailer loaded with piglets when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the east ditch. The truck and trailer rolled onto its side on the east shoulder. 

Closson suffered minor injuries and was take to the Orange City Hospital. He was cited for Failing to Maintain Control of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Use a Seatbelt.

The Sheriff’s Office estimates that the semi sustained about $30,000 in damage, the trailer about $10,000, and the loss of piglets is estimated at $30,000. 

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Alton ambulance, Alton Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance, Orange City Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
