Two parents are facing charges of child endangerment for allegedly smoking marijuana around their kids. Frederick Whitlock, 34, and Shelbie Doolin, 24, are charged with two counts of child endangerment.
Whitlock and Doolin are parents of two children, one about 7 months old and the other about 2 years old. They are alleged to have smoked marijuana in their apartment from around July 1, 2018, to September 5, 2018.
According to court documents, the family came to the attention of the Department of Human Services after a September 5, 2018 incident. On that day, the younger child, who was about 3 months old at the time, was taken to Unity Point Hospital for a life-threatening head injury.
Authorities then obtained a search warrant for Whitlock and Doolin’s apartment. They reportedly found little food available for the kids. They also found seven bags of marijuana laying on an open box of cereal near a baby pacifier and sippy cup. A marijuana pipe was also found in the bedroom of the parents
They collected hair samples from the two reported tested positive for marijuana. They also tested hair samples of the two children and found they tested positive as well.
The two are being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a bond of $2,000.
