YANKTON, S.D. (KCAU) – A group of farmers in Yankton County filled the streets around the county government building Tuesday night.
Farmers there saying the parade of tractors was designed to help the county commission understand the important role the agricultural community plays in Yankton County.
“I’m hoping that they see that we also have a voice, right now it seems like the decisions being made to make the county a workable place are not thinking about us and we’re being left out of it,” local farmer Nancy Schenk said.
Local farmers Karl and Nancy Schenk say Yankton County has some of South Dakota’s most restrictive policies on livestock production. It’s an area several Yankton County farmers would like to expand to help offset the low grain prices in the down ag economy.
Farmers at the meeting were encouraging officials to limit land use regulations that could impact agricultural operations in Yankton County.
