Onawa, IOWA - The Onawa racing and events complex is now open and drag racers from all over Siouxland are eager to strut their stuff, but no one is more excited about its completion than the complex's President, Phil Schroder.
What started out as a dream has become reality with decades of planning, over a year of work and a bit of luck, Phil says he couldn't be happier, "Makes me feel real good, it's an accomplishment all of us have done and we've worked real hard and hit a lot of doors and we've put a team together and we got it put together," says Schroder.
With the support of the city of Onawa and many investors, work began last May to convert the old airport runway into the drag strip it is today. With a price tag of around 1.7 million to date and many more improvements in the works, it has been a huge investment in the community of Onawa -- but what do the racers think?
"Well i think it's a neat track, one of the smoothest I' ve ever been down," says one drive.
this is a safe facility. Thats our big thing is to go home the same way we came up here," says another.
Fun, fast and safe and thrilling to watch, the Onawa racing an events complex is a great addition to Siouxland.
